Jylana L. Sheats, PhD, MPH
Dr. Jylana L. Sheats is an applied Behavior Scientist with training in psychology, public health, and health behavior from Spelman College (BA), Tulane University (MPH) and Indiana University-Bloomington (Ph.D.). She received postdoctoral training in behavioral medicine from Stanford School of Medicine. Jylana works across sectors designing culturally relevant digital and non-digital solutions with the goal of reducing health disparities and addressing social determinants of health. She is a 2021-2023 Civic Science Fellow with the Aspen Institute Science & Society program, which complements her research— and efforts to engage with unrepresented and historically marginalized communities around science and social justice, citizen science, science policy, science communication and dissemination, and diversifying the STEM workforce. Jylana has concurrent faculty appointments at the University of California – Berkeley School of Public Health and Rutgers University Bloustein School of Public Policy. She has been recognized across sectors through peer-reviewed publications and awards, including a National Institute of Health Building Innovative Research Careers in Women’s Health award.
